कठुआ राजकीय महाविद्यालय की साहित्यिक समिति ने गांधी जयंती समारोह 2025 के अंतर्गत आज “सत्य और अहिंसा: समकालीन समय में गांधीवादी दर्शन की प्रासंगिकता” विषय पर एक अंतर-महाविद्यालय वाद-विवाद प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया। यह कार्यक्रम कठुआ के राजकीय महाविद्यालय की प्राचार्या प्रो. (डॉ.) सवी बहल के कुशल मार्गदर्शन और अंग्रेजी विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ. नीरज शर्मा के संयोजकत्व में आयोजित किया गया।
प्रतियोगिता का उद्देश्य आधुनिक विश्व में, विशेष रूप से सामाजिक, राजनीतिक और नैतिक चुनौतियों के समाधान में महात्मा गांधी के सिद्धांतों के स्थायी महत्व को उजागर करना था।
विभिन्न सेमेस्टर के छात्रों ने बड़े उत्साह के साथ भाग लिया और प्रस्ताव के पक्ष और विपक्ष में विचारोत्तेजक तर्क प्रस्तुत किए।
वक्ताओं ने इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि कैसे गांधी के सत्य और अहिंसा के आदर्श शांति, सहिष्णुता और सामाजिक न्याय को बढ़ावा देने में प्रासंगिक बने हुए हैं, जबकि अन्य ने आज के जटिल वैश्विक परिदृश्य में इन सिद्धांतों को लागू करने की चुनौतियों की आलोचनात्मक जांच की।
कार्यक्रम का निर्णायक अर्थशास्त्र विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ. रूपिंदर कौर; उर्दू विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ. जगमोहन शर्मा; और अंग्रेजी विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ. ईवा शर्मा थे, जिन्होंने प्रतिभागियों की गहन शोध, विचारों की स्पष्टता और आत्मविश्वास से भरी
प्रस्तुति की सराहना की।
परिणामों की घोषणा साहित्यिक क्लब के सह-संयोजक और उर्दू विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ. यशपाल शर्मा ने की, जिन्होंने अपने संबोधन में उपस्थित लोगों को याद दिलाया कि “गांधी का संदेश केवल इतिहास तक सीमित नहीं है; यह मानवता के भविष्य के लिए एक मार्गदर्शक प्रकाश है।”
विजेता थे: श्री राहुल ठाकुर (तृतीय सेमेस्टर) – प्रथम पुरस्कार; श्री ध्रुव देव सिंह (तृतीय सेमेस्टर) – द्वितीय पुरस्कार; और श्री तरुणवीर सिंह (तृतीय सेमेस्टर) – तृतीय पुरस्कार।
कार्यक्रम का कुशल संचालन प्रो. सुप्रीत कौर बाली ने किया और इसका समन्वय प्रो. राखी मल्होत्रा ​​और डॉ. कमलजोत कौर ने किया। इसमें विभिन्न सेमेस्टरों के संकाय सदस्यों और छात्रों ने भाग लिया, जिससे यह कार्यक्रम गांधी जयंती समारोह का एक यादगार हिस्सा बन गया।

Intra-College Debate Competition on Gandhian Philosophy Organized at Govt. Degree College,

The Literary Committee of Govt. Degree College, Kathua organized an Intra-College Debate
Competition today as part of the Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations 2025 on the theme “Truth and
Non-Violence: The Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Contemporary Times.” The event was
held under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Savi Behl, Principal, GDC, Kathua and convenorship
of Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Head, Department of English.
The competition aimed to highlight the enduring significance of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles in
the modern world, especially in addressing social, political, and ethical challenges. Students from
various semesters participated with great enthusiasm, presenting thought-provoking arguments
both for and against the motion.
Speakers eloquently emphasized how Gandhi’s ideals of Satya (Truth) and Ahimsa (Non-
violence) remain relevant in promoting peace, tolerance, and social justice, while others critically
examined the challenges of applying these principles in today’s complex global scenario.
The event was judged by Dr. Rupinder Kour, Head, Department of Economics; Dr. Jagmohan
Sharma, Head, Department of Urdu; and Dr. Eva Sharma, Department of English, who
commended the participants for their depth of research, clarity of thought, and confident
presentation.
The results were announced by Dr. Yashpaul Sharma, Co-Convenor, Literary Club and Head,
Department of Urdu, who, in his address, reminded the gathering that “Gandhi’s message is not
confined to history; it is a guiding light for humanity’s future.”
The winners were: Mr. Rahul Thakur (3rd Semester) – First Prize; Mr. Dhruv Dev Singh (3rd
Semester) – Second Prize; and Mr. Tarunveer Singh (3rd Semester) – Third Prize.
The program was ably hosted by Prof. Supreet Kour Bali and coordinated by Prof. Rakhi
Malhotra and Dr. Kamaljot Kour. It was attended by faculty members and students from across
various semesters, making the event a memorable part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.
