JAMMU, June 1:
Various social and political activists paid tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Amar Nath here today and said, Real heroes never die; they live on in our hearts and memories.
BJP activist R.L.Kaith while paying heartfelt tribute said that the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir State when came into force on January 26, 1957 was silent over any provision relating to reservation in services and posts for the Scheduled Castes. There was a great resentment among members of the Scheduled Castes. Then a strong leader Bhagat Amar Nath came to the fore and began a fast unto death to get a provision of reservation in J&K State legislature and Govt services for Scheduled Castes. Unfortunately, on June 1, 1970, Bhagat Amar Nath breathed his last and immediately after that, the then J&K State Government accepted the proposal and announced reservation for the Scheduled Castes both in State legislature and Government services.Prominent among those who paid tributes included RTI India Newa Chairman Sansar Singh Motan, Sub Inspector Darshan Kumar Bassa (Retd) Subedar Baldev Chand Sandhu (Retd), Havildar Des Raj Kaith (Retd), Master Naresh Kumar Kaith, Jagdish Raj Kaith and Sikandar Kumar.
