The President of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory, Sh. Darshan Rana, has expressed deep concern over the rapidly increasing drug abuse in the Union Territory.
He pointed out that even the Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Ms. Sakina Itoo, has recently acknowledged that the misuse of narcotic drugs is spreading alarmingly across Jammu & Kashmir.
Rana stated that when the government itself admits such a grave situation, it becomes its moral and administrative responsibility to issue a detailed White Paper on the subject, clarifying:

How much expenditure has been incurred on drug control programmes;
In how many districts de-addiction and rehabilitation centres are functional;
And how many youths have been successfully rehabilitated and freed from addiction.
He further said that mere statements or symbolic rallies will not solve the problem. The participation of all sections of society is essential, but the government must act with transparency and present a clear, result-oriented action plan before the public.
Rana demanded that the Centre and the Lt. Governor’s Administration should immediately constitute a State-Level Drug Eradication Commission, which must submit and publish a report every six months.
