Government Degree College Kakryal, Katra, organized Essay Writing and Painting Competitions on the eve of 79th Independence Day i.e. 15th of August 2025. The events were conducted as part of the week-long celebrations aimed at instilling patriotic fervor among students and commemorating the sacrifices made by freedom fighters. The programme was organized under the guidance of the worthy Principal, Dr. RajniBhagat. Students from various semesters enthusiastically participated in both events, showcasing their talents and patriotic spirit.The theme for the essay writing competition was “Role of Education in Promoting Peace”. In total eight number of students participated in the competition who presented insightful perspectives on the role of education in promoting peace in India. Their essays reflected awareness of current challenges as well as optimism for a better future. Ayushi Thappa (5th sem) secured first position, Shivani Charak (5th sem) bagged 2ndposition and Raghav (5th sem) and Sakshi (5th sem) secured third position. The judges for the event were Dr. Sajaad Iqbal, Prof. Nasar Ahmed and Dr. Harmeet Kour. The theme for the painting competition was “Potraits of Unsung heroes of Indian Independence”. The artworks were judged based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and presentation. Sakshi (5th sem), Mamta (1st sem) and Shilpi (3rd sem) bagged Ist, 2nd and 3rdposition respectively. The faculty members who judged thepainting competition were Prof. Shikha Bhasin and Dr. UshaSharma. The competitions provided a platform for students to express their views and sentiments creatively while honoring the spirit of Independence Day. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the event coordinator, Dr. Usha Sharma,expressing gratitude to all participants, judges, and staff for their cooperation in making the program a success.
