Rajouri, June 5, 2025:
Government Degree College (GDC) Rajouri marked World Environment Day with great fervor
through a collaborative event organized by the Department of Environmental Science (EVS),
National Service Scheme (NSS), and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The celebration
underscored the urgent need for environmental consciousness and sustainable living practices.
The event was chaired by the Principal of GDC Rajouri, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, who in his
keynote address emphasized the role of educational institutions in shaping environmentally
responsible citizens. He applauded the efforts of the organizing departments in nurturing a
culture of ecological stewardship among students and faculty alike.
Prominent faculty members graced the occasion with their presence and insights, including Prof.
Naveen Sharma, Head of Department, EVS; Prof. Riaz Mirza IQAC coordinator, Dr. Mohd Tufail,
Head of Department, Geography; Dr. Shakeel Ahmed; Dr. Makhdoom Chouhan; Prof. Mukesh;
and Dr. Florence Chand, among others.
The event was further enriched by the presence of distinguished guests from GDC Darhal,
including Dr. Ghulam Abbas, Head of Department, Persian, and Dr. M. Saleem Wani, Head of
Department, English. Their participation added value to the occasion and strengthened the
inter-collegiate academic collaboration.
Activities during the program included expert talks, student-led environmental pledges, and a
campus cleanliness drive aimed at promoting sustainable practices and environmental
protection. The day served as a vibrant platform for students and faculty to reaffirm their
commitment to preserving nature and combating climate change.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, reiterating the college’s dedication to
environmental causes and its mission to inspire positive change in society.
