BADC Appeals for Urgent Repair of Border Roads Damaged During Monsoon

Jammu, 13 August 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development
Conference (JK_BADC), an organisation working for the welfare of border residents
and tribal communities of J & K, has urged the J & K Government and Border
Roads Organisation (BRO) to start repair work on border roads damaged in recent
heavy rains without any further delay.
Chairman of JKBADC, Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, said that continuous rainfall
during the last few weeks has triggered landslides and soil erosion at several places
in Poonch, Rajouri and other hilly areas of J & K .
“In many villages, main link roads have either been washed away or blocked by
mud and debris, cutting people off from hospitals, schools, markets and even their
relatives in nearby areas,” he said.
He added that in some pockets, villagers have to walk long distances on foot to
reach the main road, and elderly patients, pregnant women and students are facing
the worst hardship. Road closures have also slowed the supply of ration, medicines,
construction material and other daily essentials. Passenger buses, goods carriers and
private vehicles are moving at a snail’s pace, while in some cases people are forced
to take long, risky detours through forest tracks.
Dr. Shazad appealed to the BRO, PWD and local administration to clear landslide
debris and begin proper repair work immediately. “The work should be done on
priority before the situation becomes even more serious,” he said. He stressed that
along with quick repairs, there is need for permanent solutions like proper drainage
channels, slope protection walls and use of durable materials so that the same
damage does not happen every monsoon. He also demanded that the soil erosion
department must act and build small dangas, retaining walls so that in future the soil
erosion is stopped to avoid land slidings.
“Roads are the lifeline of border people. Without safe and all-weather connectivity,
life here becomes extremely difficult,” he remarked, assuring that JKBADC will
continue to raise the issues of border residents at every platform.
