Inter College Competitions Held at Government Degree College, Kathua
In the spirit of the 79th Independence Day celebrations and with an atmosphere charged with patriotic
zeal, Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua, the lead college of the district, successfully hosted
District-Level Competitions in Essay Writing, Painting, National Anthem Singing, and Seminar
Presentations. The event became a vibrant platform for the youth to express their creativity, intellect,
and love for the nation through words, colours, and melodies. The programme was jointly organised by
Literary Committee, NSS and NCC Unit of the college.
The esteemed Principal of GDC Kathua, Prof. Savi Behl, applauded the participants for embodying the
ideals of unity, creativity, and cultural pride. She emphasized that such events not only enrich students’
personalities but also deepen their connection with the country’s cultural and democratic values.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. Shivani Kotwal, Convener of the Literary Committee and Head
of the Department of English, who also delivered the welcome address. In her remarks, she highlighted
how literary and cultural expressions have historically been powerful tools for nation-building and how
the youth must continue to nurture these traditions. The event was graced by Senior faculty members of
the college Prof. Neelam Bhagat- Incharge Principal of the college, Prof. R.K. Pandita, Prof. Shalini
Sharma, Dr. R.K. Manhas and Prof. Ambika Rajput.
A total of 36 students (four from each of the nine participating Government Degree Colleges) competed
with enthusiasm, representing: Government Degree College, Kathua; Government Degree College, Bani;
Government Degree College, Billawar; Government Degree College, Marheen; Government Degree
College, Mahanpur; Government Degree College for Women, Kathua; Government Degree College,
Ramkote; Government Degree College, Hira nagar; Government Degree College, Basohli.
