Govt. PG College Rajouri Organises Essay Writing and Painting Competition

As part of the week-long celebrations leading up to the 79th Independence Day,
Government Degree College Rajouri, under the aegis of the College Cultural and Literary
Committee in collaboration with PG Department of Urdu and Department of English, organized
an engaging and thought-provoking Essay Writing and Painting Competition. The events aimed
at nurturing a spirit of patriotism, creativity, and reflective thinking among students, while also
commemorating the sacrifices and achievements that mark India’s journey as an independent
nation. Held in the college campus, the competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from
students across various semesters, who displayed exceptional talent, critical insight, and artistic
brilliance. Through their essays, students eloquently articulated the struggles of India’s freedom
movement, the milestones achieved since 1947, and their visionary perspectives on the roadmap
for the nation’s future. Simultaneously, the painting competition offered a visual celebration of
India’s unity in diversity, portraying themes such as national integration, cultural heritage, and
the valour of freedom fighters.
The principal of the college, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, graced the occasion and lauded
the efforts of the committee for organizing such meaningful events. He also appreciated the
participants for their creative involvement and deep sense of national pride reflected in their
contributions. While, Ms. Vanshika Sharma, a student of Semester III, secured the first position
for her thought-provoking insights and articulation, in Essay Writing category, Ms. Japneet Kour
from Semester V, clinched the first prize for her vibrant and evocative artwork in the Painting
competition. The successful coordination of both events was made possible through the dedicated
efforts of various faculty members who included, Dr. Mohd. Latief Mir, HOD Urdu, Dr. Zakir
Kalis, Convener College Cultural and Literary Committee and HOD English, Prof. Ayaz Ahmed
Chowdhary,Dr. Abdul Razaq, Dr. Ahsan Rizvi, Dr. Mujahid ul Islam, Dr. Ahjaz Hussain Shah,
Prof. Antima Gupta, Dr. Flourance Chaand, Prof. Anies Chowdhary, Prof. Rameez Raja,Dr.
Shazia Kouser and Prof. Sabia Akhter.
The event concluded with a formal announcement of the winners and distribution of
certificates to all participants as a token of appreciation and encouragement. The competitions not
only provided students a platform to express their ideas and creativity but also instilled in them a
deeper sense of belongingness, civic responsibility, and national pride.
