Jammu, November 16, 2025 Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Jammu and Kashmir Unit, has expressed deep concern over the repeated removal of street vendors and small hawkers from roadside areas in Jammu during the movement of ministers, high-profile officials, and VIPs. BSP Jammu President, Darshan Rana, stated that since the government offices and administrative functions shifted to Jammu, police and civic authorities have been clearing vendors multiple times a day along the routes used by VIP convoys. This frequent disruption has severely affected the livelihood of thousands of poor families who depend on daily earnings from their street trade. He appealed to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and the concerned government departments to adopt a more humane and balanced approach to security and public movement management. The party emphasized that street vendors are also part of society and deserve the right to earn their living with dignity. Mr. Rana urged the police and local authorities to ensure that while maintaining necessary security protocols, the genuine livelihood rights of small traders and vendors are not violated. He called for policy measures and proper vendor zones to be identified so that these citizens can continue their work without fear of displacement.
