November 09: In a determined effort to curb illegal mining, Shopian Police have seized five tractors involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from the Keegam and Shopian areas. The details of the registered cases are as follows:
1. FIR No. 241/2025: One tractor seized.
2. FIR No. 242/2025: One tractor seized.
3. FIR No. 244/2025: One tractor seized.
4. FIR No. 245/2025: Two tractors seized.
All the above vehicles were found operating without valid royalty documents. Accordingly, FIRs have been registered under relevant provisions of law at Police Station Shopian and investigations have been taken up.
Shopian Police reaffirm their commitment to protecting the district’s natural resources and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining. Citizens are urged to cooperate with the police by reporting any instances of illegal mining. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential and strict legal action will be taken against violators in accordance with law.
