Darshan Rana, President of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory unit, has urged the administration to take immediate and concrete measures to ensure the security of statues of great leaders and religious places belonging to all faiths and communities across Jammu and Kashmir.
He stated that the statues of great personalities symbolize *social harmony, unity, and shared cultural heritage. The recent incident of *vandalism of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s statue in Bani, District Kathua has triggered concern and outrage throughout the region. This unfortunate act clearly indicates that anti-social elements are attempting to disturb peace and communal harmony in society.
Darshan Rana made the following demands from the administration—
- Installation of a CCTV camera network around all statues of great leaders and religious places for 24-hour monitoring.
- Keeping a strict watch on anti-social and communal elements and taking immediate action against any objectionable activities.
- Constant monitoring of social media platforms to identify those uploading inflammatory or objectionable videos and initiating legal action against them.
He urged Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah to treat this serious matter as a top priority, respect public sentiments, and ensure strong measures to maintain an atmosphere of peace, unity, and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.
