Jammu, August 29

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Sainiโ€™s recent announcement of government jobs for one eligible member from each of the 121 families affected by the 1984 violence in the state has been hailed as a significant step toward justice and healing. The decision, made public in the Haryana Assembly on August 25, has been described as a landmark move by S. Varinderjeet Singh, Chairman of the National Sikh Front (NSF).

Calling it a gesture of compassion, Mr. Singh said the initiative has given a renewed sense of dignity and security to families who have long struggled with the legacy of the tragedy. โ€œThis is a heartfelt step that restores hope to many families who endured unimaginable hardships,โ€ he said in a statement issued from Jammu. He urged other states affected by the violence to follow Haryanaโ€™s example and extend similar relief to victimsโ€™ families.

Historical records highlight the scale of loss faced in Haryana, where 121 people lost their lives, 20 places of worship were desecrated, and widespread damage was reported to homes, shops, factories, and vehicles. The NSF Chairman emphasized that despite inquiries and reports exposing lapses, justice has remained elusive for many families across different states.

He particularly appealed to the governments of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir to adopt comprehensive relief measures, including jobs, compensation, education, and housing support for surviving families. Referring to the tragedy in Talwara, Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, he called upon state authorities to ensure timely rehabilitation for those still awaiting justice and recognition.

Mr. Singh also urged the Union Government to strengthen ongoing investigations through Special Investigation Teams and to provide a coordinated national response to address the long-pending grievances of victimsโ€™ families. He noted that Haryanaโ€™s decision should serve as a model for other states, calling it a blueprint for justice and reconciliation.

The National Sikh Front, under his leadership, continues to advocate for the rights and dignity of the Sikh community, including issues related to rehabilitation, justice, and preservation of religious freedoms. According to Mr. Singh, the Haryana governmentโ€™s step marks an important milestone that can inspire a collective nationwide effort to support survivors and their families.
